Why do I need a coach?

It’s so simple!

Why does Lebron need a coach? (Or whoever your favorite athlete might be). The best and greatest in any field will still have a coach. The most skilled person still needs someone who can look at them and say, “if you try this instead, you could have this better outcome.” Or “I’ve noticed that you do this, and it hasn’t really been working for you even though it feels natural. Let’s work on that instead.” The reality is, when we are in the weeds, it’s really hard to see that there is grass around you. A coach is outside of your situation and can help you see areas of growth and provide you with proven strategies to help you reach your goals. You could spend lots of time, energy, and money trying to do it yourself or you can hire someone to help you get there quicker and more sustainably.

What can I expect during the process?

i am here to make your life easier.

You can expect me to be my supportive, compassionate self with a side of “come on now girl” and enthusiastic encouragement. You can expect me to have a bag full of tools and strategies to overcome mental and behavioral roadblocks and creative ways to help you live the dynamic life you want. I will challenge you. I will encourage change. But I will be here to support you every step of the way.

What’s the difference between coaching and therapy?

There are a few.

Therapy focuses on healing, mental health issues and wellness, and can work through issues such as trauma. Life coaching focuses on specific goals and is typically more short-term. The major difference between therapy and life coaching is the focus of the work: therapy focuses on mental health and emotional healing, while life coaching focuses on setting and achieving goals. There is a lot of overlap in the work, however, and any coach should be careful not to cross into treating mental health issues through coaching.

What qualifications do you have?

many.

I am a Certified Life Coach and have a Ph.D. in Human Development and Family Science, I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, AAMFT Approved Supervisor, former professor, and multiple business owner. While I am NOT serving in the capacity of a therapist in this space, I have the professional experience and knowledge to know and understand the challenges people face with self-care, goal setting, and identity-related issues and have the training to intervene on those issues as a coach.
